     CENSUS BUREAU RELEASES 1995 POPULATION ESTIMATES FOR PUERTO RICO

     The population of Puerto Rico as of July 1, 1995 was 3,755,127, an 
increase of 6.6 percent since April 1, 1990, according to estimates released 
today by the Commerce Department's Census Bureau.
  
     The estimates show that San Juan was the largest municipio in 1995 with a 
population of 438,078, and Culebra was the smallest with 1,598 people.  The 
table released today provides population totals in 1990 and 1995 for all 
municipios, the percent change in their populations between 1990 and 1995, as
well as the number of births and deaths from 1990 to 1995.
