Data Tools for Wildfire-Impacted Areas in Northern California

Northern California Wildfires mapJuly 2, 2008 – As firefighters in California continue to battle wildfires, the Census Bureau provides data and map products to show the potential impact on the local economy and labor force.

The products provide three seven-day moving pictures of the people working in the impacted areas and of the workers who live there. The three periods end June 25, 27, and 30.

  • Two summary maps and data highlights for the most recent period ending June 30 [PDF-6M]
  • Additional maps and more detailed information for all three time periods [PDF-8M]
  • Notes and Methodology [PDF-55K]
  • List of impacted census blocks for June 30th period [Excel]

The data are from the Census Bureau’s “OnTheMap” tool. The tool and information about downloading the data that support it are available at http://lehd.did.census.gov. Wildfire locations are based on data from the USDA Forest Service.
