Group Quarters Population Numbered Almost 8 Million

The current group quarters population in the U.S. is 7,963,420, as of July 1, 2004. The Census Bureau collects additional detail on the group quarters population in the decennial census and in the interim, releases overall estimates at the state and county level each year. To find the estimates, click on "Estimates" on the home page and download the entire data set. Scroll down to the county tables and the link to group quarters population is there.
