Census 2000

Data From Census 2000 and Previous Censuses Featured in Upcoming Atlas. The Census Bureau is publishing the Census Atlas of the United States, a thematic map book available for purchase ($95) this fall from the U.S. Government Printing Office, the Customer Services Center, and major commercial bookstores.

Learn About U.S. Households in Examining American Household Composition: 1990 and 2000. Part of a series of Census 2000 special reports, this report addresses the growing complexity of U.S. householders and alternative ways to highlight that complexity. Uses a "partner" or "nonpartner" householder classification and measures change in these categories for the first time, including by whether or not children are present in the household. Also, includes the first tabulations of households by the number of generations present.

We the People: Blacks in the United States. A comprehensive demographic, social and economic portrait of the more than 36 million people who identified themselves as Black or African American in Census 2000. The special report also discusses differences between men and women within the Black population at the national level.

We the People: Pacific Islanders in the United States. A comprehensive national-level demographic, social and economic portrait of the largest detailed Pacific Islander groups: Native Hawaiian, Samoan, Guamanian or Chamorro, Fijian, Tongan and Marshallese.


Population

Estimates of State and County Population by Age, Sex, Race and Hispanic Origin: July 1, 2004. Population estimates by these demographic characteristics for the nation's states and counties.

Indicators of Marriage and Fertility in the United States from the American Community Survey: 2000 to 2003. An analysis of marriage and fertility patterns nationwide as well as for each state. Examines various socioeconomic characteristics of married couples, unmarried-partner households and women who have given birth in the last year. Includes first-ever Census Bureau tabulations, by state, on median age at first marriage.


Economic Census and Surveys

2002 Economic Census of Island Areas: Puerto Rico Manufacturing. Information on the number of businesses and employees, payroll, value of shipments and other information pertaining to the manufacturing sector of Puerto Rico's economy. A construction report is scheduled for release later this year, and a geographic areas report will contain information for all other sectors of Puerto Rico's economy covered in the 2002 Economic Census.

2003 County Business Patterns. Internet files and PDF reports containing a variety of information on business in more than 1,100 industries for the nation, states and counties. Includes data on the number of establishments and employees and quarterly and annual payroll. Eventually available for purchase on CD-ROM.

Construction Put in Place: June 2005. Press release showing estimates of the value of total new construction put in place by type of construction and by type of owner. Scheduled for release August 1, 2005.

Advance Report on Durable Goods Manufacturers' Shipments, Inventories, and Orders: June 2005. Press release showing advance information on key business indicators is scheduled for release August 2, 2005.

Monthly Wholesale Trade: June 2005. Press release showing estimates for sales, inventories on a non-LIFO ("last in-first out") basis, and stock-sales ratios for merchant wholesalers by three-digit major kind-of-business groups is scheduled for release August 9, 2005.

Advance Monthly Sales for Retail Trade and Food Services: July 2005. Press release presenting advance monthly estimates of retail store sales by kind-of-business groups. Report includes seasonally adjusted estimates and percentage changes for major kind-of-business groups is scheduled for release August 11, 2005.

Manufacturing and Trade: Inventories and Sales: June: 2005. Press release showing sales, inventories, and inventories-to-sales ratios for the combined domestic activities of retailers, wholesalers, and manufacturers is scheduled for release August 11, 2005.

U.S. International Trade in Goods and Services: June 2005. Press release showing monthly exports, general imports (including data by country), and limited data on imports for consumption is scheduled for release August 12, 2005.
