UNIVERSE DESCRIPTION

All persons in Oakland, California; Paterson, New Jersey; and the following six parishes in Northwestern Louisiana: Bienville, De Soto, Jackson, Natchitoches, Red River, and Winn.

SUBJECT MATTER DESCRIPTION

The files provide data for all persons and for persons 18 years old and over for race (five major groups) and Hispanic origin.

GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE

Internet--Block-level files are provided for Oakland, California; Paterson, New Jersey; and the six parishes in Louisiana. The block-level files are in State-County-Census Tract/Block Numbering Area-Block order. Site-level files are provided for Oakland, California and Paterson, New Jersey. A separate file contains summaries for the six Louisiana parishes. A place-level file in place code sequence is provided only for the incorporated places in the six Louisiana parishes for the total population only.

CD-ROM--The CD-ROM contains three files: one for Oakland, California; one for Paterson, New Jersey; and one for the six Louisiana parishes. The California and New Jersey files include county (site), census tract/BNA, and block records. The Louisiana file includes county, place, census tract/BNA, and block records. The place-level record (in place code sequence) contains only the total population for the incorporated places in the six Louisiana parishes.

SOFTWARE

Data retrieval software is on the CD-ROM. It can be accessed by typing GO.

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

The block-level files and the county-level files are each 408 characters in length. The place-level file is 32 characters in length.

Internet--The files on Internet are in ASCII format. They are shown as data files and print files. The data files contain one string of data and have an "ASC" extension. The print files are in tabular format and have a "PRN" extension.

Data files -- The block-level files are labelled CA1995BL.ASC, NJ1995BL.ASC, and LA1995BL.ASC; the site/county-level files are labelled CA1995CO.ASC, NJ1995CO.ASC, and LA1995CO.ASC; and the place-level file is labelled LA1995PL.ASC.

Print files -- The block-level files are labelled CA1995BL.PRN, NJ1995BL.PRN, and LA1995BL.PRN; the site/county-level files are labelled CA1995CO.PRN, NJ1995CO.PRN, and LA1995CO.PRN. (There is no place-level print file available.)

CD-ROM--The data files on the CD-ROM are in dBASEIII+TM format. The files are labelled CA1995.DBF for California; NJ1995.DBF for New Jersey; and LA1995.DBF for Louisiana.
